My new LL lied to me telling me that the apt I was renting was in a quiet building, only to find out after I signed a lease that it was a zoo!....people up all night, no insulation in the walls....I complained and she said not to bother her, that noise was not an emergency
That's just one of those "buyer beware" situations. Generally, a landlord is never going to describe the poor aspects of an apartment. They're just out to make money and that's all they want. Nothing more.
If it makes you feel any better, I've been scammed by landlords many a times. A few more times than I would have liked. I guess it was so many times because I didn't have much money to spare and it was nice to have a place to live for cheap. It's pretty much a lesson of "you get what you pay for." Turns out in one apartment, the thermostat was broken (and no one came to fix it for months) and apparently my washer/dryer was broken too. What a jip.
The mistake was made by my landlord and the NSF and late fees have been waived. My rent was paid on time and they appreciated that I so promptly offered another check to be cashed. When attempting to cash my check electronically, they added a digit in my account number, which caused the check not to be valid and come up NSF.
